1 Corinthians 13:13 “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
What is love? Love is the common denominator in how we relate to God, others and ourselves. According to the Bible, God, so loved the world he gave His Son to die a criminal death in order that mankind sins might be forgiven!
History is replete with instances of individuals or collection of individuals who gave their life to protect lives of loved ones or countrymen. Yet, there is no historical example of an ultra rich man sacrificing his life to protect a pauper from poverty and death! Only God did that!
So what are the characteristics of God‘s true love? God love is ‘others’ centered. You willingly give up your egocentric desires to elevate the exegesis of others. The deep personal satisfaction of others is the goal of love!
God’s love has eternal characteristics featuring compassion and forgiveness! In imitating God‘s love Christians love people who are unlovely, love their enemies and love the foreigners in their land. Like God’s love, a Christian’s love is both humble and strong, unwavering in an environment of hate and persecution.
As humankind’s Creator, God’s affection is unconditional generating a love that endures forever! I pray that during this Valentine season you will discover or renew a deeper sense of love!
